UIU is the only NCAA Division II Athletic Program in Iowa and member of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The UIU Athletics Program strives to serve a diverse population, while sponsoring programs that will foster growth and knowledge for each individual student-athlete.

Currently under construction on the Fayette campus are a new Liberal Arts Building, Student Center, and Suite-Style Student Housing. UIU is using 'green' construction techniques, materials, and installations, including geo-thermal heating and cooling.
